Japanese festivals are very popular in the summertime all across Japan. Think county fair without the animals and rides. Or Heritage Days without the rides.
This is the poster advertising the festival.
The festivals start with a beautiful parade which we missed. Then there is a stage and huge tarps spread out for sitting upon. And tables with chairs are in the back.
We arrived during an anime show.
We also saw some little hip hop performers. They were cute. They danced to Janet Jackson's "Rhythm Nation" and The Jackson Five's "I Want You Back". They had started dancing to "Harlem Shake" when we left.
And the food...
Chocolate covered bananas on a stick.
It wasn't very yummy. The chocolate tasted bland and like the lousy Palmers brand you can buy cheaply at Easter.
There was a nearby playground. These kids have never found a playground they didn't like. And the only other blonde kid for miles joined them.
Here's a safe playground apparatus. If you think acting as wrecking balls and slamming into one another is an excellent idea.
The grossest thing, to me, was bacon slab on a stick.
Shrimp balls.
The boys also had snow cones.
I tried outsized possibly sweet potatoes. But the crystals are sugar and the tasted a little banana-y.
I don't know what this is.
At Lake Ogawara, you can only use the restroom if you are a skinny woman or fat man.
